Celebrity Cruises 76,522 gt MV CELEBRITY MERCURY (ex MERCURY) will join former sister MEIN SCHIFF (ex GALAXY, CELEBRITY GALAXY) in the TUI Cruises fleet as MEIN SCHIFF 2. Built in 1997, the 1,898 passenger vessel was the third in the CENTURY class of ships constructed by Meyer Werft of Papenburg, Germany for Celebrity Cruises. In May of 2011, she will take on her new name for cruise service in the German market following a refit that will see the addition of more verandah cabins, a dark blue hull with TUI’s distinctive markings and new decor.

Another Beauty leaves the North American market. Yes she is big, boxy but still far more attractive than those new beasts they are building. Bye Bye Mercury !

That ship has needed to go for quite some time – Worst cruise I ever had was aboard Mercury.

My very first cruise with Celebrity was on the Mercury when she was not even a year old. I sailed to Alaska on her. She was beautiful and the service was wonderful I will always think of her and smile.

I sailed in the Galaxy and found her to both appealing as well as a ” happy ship”. At this juncture I almost have no expectations for a beautiful exterior on a modern cruise ship. Disney represents the best that can probably be had in our ” new world order”.

Yeah – she was loved by her crew – more jumped ship than all all other vessels combined. And lets not forget the Captain being taken away in cuffs for being drunk on duty.

Thought Mercury would eventully join her sister Galaxy at TUI. I loved this class of vessels at Celebrity (hope they keep Century!) and sailed on each one in turn. Thought the onboard style and of course, service and cuisene were tops for a mass-market Line. The Summit Class began to leave me cold with the exception of their onboard tribute to the liners of the past. The new group of “Big Uglys” – Solstice, etc are pure glitz and flash… You can keep ‘em!
