With 177 passengers on board, the ro/ro ferry MV ISLE OF MULL was approaching Oban, Argyll, Scotland, when a 60 knot (70 mph) gust of wind rammed the ferry in to the pier.
The ship’s bow visor and the gangway were both damaged but no injures were reported. The Clyde Coast Guard reported that all passengers were landed safely. The 1988-built, UK-flagged Caledonian MacBrayne vessel will be out of service until repairs can be made. The MV ISLE OF MULL measures 4,719 gt and can carry total of 962 passengers and 70 cars.
A replacement vessel, the 3,040 gt MV HEBRIDEAN ISLES, will being used for the Oban to Craignure crossing while ISLE OF MULL is out of action.

MV Isle of Mull wasn’t the only ship of the Caledonian MacBrayne fleet to have a mishap the same week , as MV Caledonian Isles too was hit with a sudden 50mph+ wind squall whilst entering Ardrossan Harbour in Ayrshire. She was forced into the Winton Pier and had to wait for about an hour to berth at the linkspan , ususually stern first. No injuries to passengers and crew was reported.
