The third in Carnival Cruises’ DREAM platform of ships, the CARNIVAL BREEZE, was delivered to her owners by the Monfalcone-based Fincantieri shipyard near Trieste, Italy, yesterday.

The delivery of the BREEZE also marks the 100th anniversary of the first ocean liner constructed at Monfalcone, the May, 1912-built KAISER FRANZ JOSEPH I.

Author, artist and maritime historian Maurizio Eliseo created a special image of the two ships berthed together, ready to depart on their first cruise.  The signed artwork was presented to CARNIVAL BREEZE’s Captain Vincenzo Alcaras on the night of the handover.  The ship is now en route to Venice to commence her inaugural cruise season.

With very special thanks to Maurizio Eliseo.

Wow. Fantastic story Peter and fanatastic images Maurizio! I had to do a double-take on that classic liner berthed next to the newest cruiser.

She looks great from the stern. Very muscular, and that wonderful Carnival funnel.

I love Maurizio’s composite picture. My grandparents sailed aboard KFJI after WWI when she had become Cosulich’s Presidente Wilson. Unfortunately, I don’t have any memorabilia from that crossing.

There seems to be something about the newest of the new Carnival ships, playing off on the previous lines of the Conquest and other contemporary class vessels. They look very proper, a fine melding of the liner and cruise ship combined that few other cruise lines try to offer.

Is it any wonder the QUEEN ELIZABETH (not so nice aft) and the QUEEN VICTORIA, nice fore and aft, work so well. The HAL builds offfer what was needed for HAL, I am not a fan of the flat cargo boxed look. Seems also, that the new Carnivaliers look supremely well with vintage ships, as seen in Maurizio Eliseos’ excellent photograph.

And, that iconic funnel, the whale tale, used for decades. It is a proud funnel, and one that everyone should probably instantly recognize, even cues from the SS FRANCE with side vents.

Maurizio Eliseo is the ultimate Renaissance Man. He is overflowing with talent and makes the most Herculean task seem easy. And he is one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

In my opinion the dream class ships are the most beautiful carnival ships since the spirit class , i’m not a big fan of the destiny- conquest class ships, will see if carnival will do more dream class ships ,at the moment there are no ccl ships on order, maybe they order some of the same class of new 140,000 grt. For Sister line Princess.
