CONTEMPORARY CRUISE SHIP CHRONICLES:
OLYMPIC VOYAGER Tour: Page Two

Royal Olympic Cruises

As the OLYMPIC VOYAGER operates at high speeds, there is not much demand for unsheltered forward facing decks, save for the times when she is arriving or departing a picturesque harbor. Her uppermost decks are reserved for crew, and while off limits to passengers, their architecture is nonetheless streamlined and pleasing to the eye.

The futuristic, trellised funnel is somewhat reminiscent of that found aboard the famed Karageorgis Lines vessel MEDITERRANEAN SEA (former CITY OF EXETER) as well as the new "Grand" class of ships in the Princess fleet. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2001.

OLYMPIC VOYAGER's uppermost passenger level is called Helios (Sky) Deck. It begins right above the wheelhouse and works its way aft via the Sky Lounge/Disco and top suites to a generous lido area.

The far forward portion of Helios Deck is just above the wheelhouse and is used for navigation. Just aft of the railing, there is an area for forward observation surrounding the rounded facade of the Anemos Bar and Disco. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2001.

The mid portion of Helios Deck begins with the OLYMPIC VOYAGER's deluxe suites and their screened in verandas. Even at top speed, passengers can enjoy a leisurely time on their private balconies. Just aft of the suites, there is a nice finite promenade on either side for sunning and deck games that is protected from the wind by glass screens.

The gymnasium, spa, and beauty salon are just inside of the promenades.

Aft Helios Deck offers 5,750 square feet of space adjacent to the swimming pool.

The forward portion of the lido is served by the Helios Bar and is sheltered underneath a tarpaulin canopy, leaving plenty of space aft for sun worshipers. Sensuous coral, amber, and ebony mosaics by Sicilian artist Ignazio Moncada adorn the bar counter.

Moncada's mosaics continue in the lido area with cobalt and outre-mer blue in the swimming pool basin and tropical shower facade.

The sophisticated wheelhouse is shown in a port-facing view. Fully enclosed out to the overhanging wings, it is paneled in wood veneers complemented by deep blue carpeting, in a fashion similar to the OLYMPIC VOYAGER's public areas. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2001.

OLYMPIC VOYAGER has terraced afterdecks that contain further space for lounging and sunning as well as finite promenades on either side of Apollon and Selene Decks.

The bar on aft Apollon Deck adjoins the Garden Lounge, which is the OLYMPIC VOYAGER's informal buffet dining area.
