Oceania Cruises took delivery today of the 66,000 gt MARINA at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard in Italy.

Frank Del Rio, co-founder the line and chairman and CEO of parent Prestige Cruise Holdings, said the line’s first purpose built ship is “destined to be a game-changer in the industry”. Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono added, “The new MARINA is not only beautiful but one of the most elegant ships we have built in the last years. Today is a proud day for all of our employees and partners associated with this first newbuild for Oceania Cruises.’

MV MARINA is the first of a pair of exciting 1250-passenger newbuilds for the highly-rated Line. MARINA’s sister, RIVIERA is currently being built at the same yard and is scheduled to debut in April 2012.

Oceania Cruises announced that Mary Hart, philanthropist and host of US television’s Entertainment Tonight, will be the Godmother. The ceremony will be held in Miami, Florida on February 5 and culminate with Ms. Hart releasing a 15-liter Nebuchadnezzar of champagne, custom-made by Armand de Brignac, onto the ship’s hull.

MARINA will then sail on a three night media and travel agent introductory cruise before beginning her official maiden voyage on February 8, an eighteen-night trans-canal cruise to Los Angeles, CA.
