COSTA CONCORDIA Raised
The complex and large scale operation to refloat the wrecked COSTA CONCORDIA cruise ship continued today. Widely covered in the international media, the wreck of COSTA CONCORDIA was successfully raised on July 14 from the submerged platform that she has been resting on since the wreck was maneuvered upright in September 2013.
COSTA CONCORDIA tragically struck a reek off the island of Giglio in January 2012 with the loss of 32 lives.
Salvage experts reported that the hull was floated off her platform, and was stable with about 2m (6ft) of clearance underneath. The refloating operation will take six or more days, with air being pumped into the specially constructed sponsons, slowly raising the vessel to about the level of deck three. She will then will be towed to her homeport of Genoa, some 240 kilometers (150 miles) and scrapped. Cables and chains are being attached under the hull to provide further integrity to its strength.
Meanwhile, efforts to locate the remains of the final victim missing since the of the sinking continue; Russel Rebello, a waiter from the ship, was never located and the seabed is being searched for clues.

That is some amazing stuff to see. And to think the largest marine salvage job before this was Normandie when she capsized in New York harbor during WW2.
i have often wondered what costa will do with the personal belongings in the cabins and i wonder how much of the ship that wasnt under water is salvageable?
