QUEEN MARY’s Upcoming CA Rendezvous With QUEEN VICTORIA
|
Cunard Line’s QUEEN VICTORIA, nearing the end of her “Debut Americas” season, will meet up with former Cunarder QUEEN MARY in Long Beach, CA for a rendezvous and fireworks celebration on March 3, 2011.
The first Cunard Royal Rendezvous in California happened in Long Beach back in February 2006 when, on the occasion of her maiden call to Los Angeles, Cunard’s flagship QUEEN MARY 2 met her namesake QUEEN MARY.
In celebration of this rare event, the QUEEN MARY is offering free admission for the day for guests to board the historic ocean liner. The QUEEN VICTORIA will draw in to Long Beach Harbor between 5:30pm – 6:15pm on Thursday, March 3 and the two ships will exchange whistle salutes amidst a sparkling fireworks display. At 6:45pm it all comes to an end when the QUEEN VICTORIA continues on her Panama Canal voyage to Ft. Lauderdale.
The QUEEN MARY’s attractions include guided tours, dining and shopping, all of which will be open throughout the day.
Retired from service in 1967, QUEEN MARY resides in Long Beach, CA, is well sign-posted from the 710 Freeway, and is open year-round as a popular hotel, museum and tourist attraction. The historic liner is celebrating the 75th anniversary of her maiden voyage later this year.

Damn! Missing this by a mere 3 days. Will be on the Mary from March 6 to 13. Oh well. I was there in 2006 for the meeting of QM and QM2 though. That was awesome indeed.
Its great news for Queen Mary – the more attention she gets, the better.
I do hope Cunard stop calling them sister ships though…
Was there a technical reason why QE2 never did this? It seems a shame that the last 2 Clyde built liners afloat never met in this way.
Awesome!!! Love the Queen Mary and the Queen Victoria!!! But, sisterships? Uh uh.
Missed by hours, cruise ended on March 3rd – some merriment about the rendevous and fireworks by Captain Rynd day before the event after his noon report from the bridge.
