TOR Sisters Scrapped

Ferries of Southern Europe report that 1967-built F. DIAMOND (ex TOR HOLLANDIA, ARIADNE, OURANOS) has arrived in Aliaga, Turkey to be scrapped together with her sister, the 1966-built BAIA SARDINA (ex TOR ANGLIA, ESPRESSO OLBIA, SARDINA NOVA) five days apart. Both ships were built with car decks, constructed by Flender Werft, Germany and both have worked for numerous lines in their long careers. The F. DIAMOND was last used as a party platform by the Fashion TV Network before spending two years in layup at Genoa prior to her final voyage last week.

Never heard of F. DIAMOND… but she is an attractive looking ship.
By the way, do you know what has/will become of the Palm Beach Princess?
Never seen a ship painted black.
A sad though not unexpected end to the ships that revolutionised the UK-Sweden ferry service. Fitting that they should be scrapped at the same place at the same time (though a Swedish website states the F. DIAMOND is in Aliaga not for scrapping but rebuilding into a hotel ship. Sounds a bit unlikely to me…).
Interesting to see what will happen to the Tor sisters’ contemporary/competitor ANCONA (originally Rederi AB Svea’s SVEA) currently sailing on the Adriatic. Rumour has it there’s a plan to preserve her in some form.
Interestingly enough, a mystery for me has been solved! Three summers ago, while sailing the Ned in the Westerdam, one of the “black ships:, a Tor to be sure, was moored off of Cannnes, and at first the black ship seemed eerie, yet, somehow lelegant. The fashion ad on her side broke up the all black look.
So, thank you Martin for solving the mystery of what the black ship was.
I emailed you about a new France a while back, and I have not received an answer. Anyone hear of it?
ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TOR LINES FERRIES ….THE TOR BRITANNIA AND HER SISTER TOR (?) THEY RESEMBLED THE FINNJET OF FINNLINES
Tor Britannia and Tor Scandinavia hardly resembled the Finnjet (apart from a somewhat similar interior layout). They now sail for Moby Lines as Moby Drea and Moby Otta, respectively.
As Deputy Passenger Manager of Tor Line UK, I was responsible for filling these vessels with passengers out of Immingham. They were indeed superb ships. However, both Anglia and Hollandia had serious problems with bow doors Humber Graving dock permanently welded them closed for the duration of their life with Tor Line. Hugely saddened to hear they have been scrapped
